Former Illini Basketball Great Dave Downey and Family and Friends Make $2 Million SFC Gift

The Downey name has been associated with the Fighting Illini for more than 55 years, and with the latest gift from Dave Downey, family and friends, it will remain attached to State Farm Center for the life of the building. Downey and the group are donating $2 million for the Club 53 that will be named Club 53, in recognition for his school-record 53 points scored against Indiana in 1963. A record that still stands 52 years later.

State Farm Center Traditions Club Wait List Created

More than 480 Illinois Premium Seating members have committed to the Illinois Renaissance at State Farm Center by completing campaign gift agreements to secure their seating within the John Giuliani Family Traditions Club at newly renovated State Farm Center. The overwhelming interest in Traditions Club seating has resulted in the creation of a wait list for Illini fans who are interested in securing their spot within that level.

Storm Water Enters State Farm Center, Reaching Event Level

Storm water entered State Farm Center early Tuesday morning, beginning at approximately 3 a.m. A storm line blockage caused water to back up into the building, where it eventually made its way down to the event floor and reached the basketball court. A few inches of water accumulated on the floor, bringing it level with the court.

Construction for the renovation of State Farm Center is underway, and the University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics has installed a new webcam that will allow fans to follow the progress of the multi-year project.

Original State Farm Center Seats Available for Purchase

As a part of the Illinois Renaissance of State Farm Center, fans have the opportunity to purchase a set of two attached chairs that have been removed from the facility and retrofitted with orange legs. They are the actual seats that fans sat in for decades and cheered on memorable Illini victories in the Assembly Hall and now State Farm Center.

$1 Million Orange Krush Gift Earns Name on SFC Club

State Farm Center Leadership Gifts Announced

State Farm Center Project Receiving Strong Support

More than $30 million has been committed by University of Illinois I FUND donors in support of the Illinois Renaissance of State Farm Center since January, giving the project an outstanding start. The UI and State Farm announced in April a 30-year, $60-million agreement that changed the name of the building, which was previously known as the Assembly Hall, to State Farm Center, as the iconic structure undergoes a major renovation project scheduled for completion in the fall of 2016. The investment by State Farm is the largest by a corporation for a collegiate venue.
