2013 Big Ten Championships
Sunday, Nov. 3 (4:00 p.m. CT) - 6K Race
West Lafayette, Ind.
The Fighting Illini women's cross country team will travel to Purdue for the Big Ten Championships on Sunday, Nov. 3. The 6K race will begin at 10:45 a.m. CT, immediately following the men's 8K race. The meet will be aired tape delayed by the Big Ten Network on Thursday Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. CT. Jay Wilson, Eric Vetter and Kara Lentz will serve as the announcers for the broadcast.
Coach Jones on the Meet
"I think it gives us a sense of confidence going to the site because we've been there and we know what to expect," said Coach Jones. "I think there's a reassurance going to an environment that you've been to."
"We want to compete at the highest level we can in a Big Ten Championship," said Coach Jones. "We want to beat other teams. We have gone against Purdue a couple of times and we've had mixed results, and we have lost to Ohio State and Northwestern, but we feel that those are schools that we can be competitive with. That will be the measurement for success. In order for us to do that we need to put together a complete race where we are putting ourselves in a position at the start, maintaining things well in the middle, and then finishing strong at the end."
Each of the 12 schools in the Big Ten will compete in the championship, with six teams ranked in the latest USTFCCCA Top-30 national poll. Last year's runner-up No. 6 Michigan State leads the field, followed by defending champion No. 14 Michigan, No. 15 Minnesota, No. 21 Indiana, No. 28 Wisconsin, and No. 29 Penn State. The Illini have finished ahead of Purdue, Iowa and Indiana in previous meets this year.
Illini Set to Run
The Big Ten Championship squad consists of nine Illini, four of whom competed in the conference meet last season. The squad also features two others runners who have raced for the championship during their collegiate careers. Amanda Fox, Rachel Irion, Katie Porada, and Alyssa Schneider competed in last year's conference meet, while Britten Petrey and Stephanie Morgan will also be representing the Illini at the Big Ten Championships for the second time in their careers. Audrey Blazek, Hanna Winter, and Natalie Wynn will be competing in their first conference meet.

Megan Lemersal and Valerie Bobart placed 16th and 19th respectively, while Michelle Frigo finished 28th. Kim Seger placed 30th, with Ellie Palacios finishing 43rd.
At the Pre-National Invitational
The Fighting Illini women's cross country team placed 4th in the White Race at the Pre-National Invitational. The 6K race was held at the site of the 2013 NCAA Championships and featured a 35-team field. The team was led by Alyssa Schneider for the fourth time this season.
