The Illini women's cross country team will host their last meet before the Big Ten Championships when they welcome four cross country teams to the Illini Open on Friday, Oct. 19. The 5K race will start at 4 p.m. CT at the UI Arboretum.

"Heading into competition on Friday we are looking to have everyone run a personal best against some good competition," Rasmussen said. "We still have a few spots on the Big Ten roster open so this race, along with the entire season, will be used to determine who fills those last few spots."

The Illini will be looking to fill the last few spots on the Big Ten roster and will therefore turn to the eight runners competing in Friday's meet. After racing in the conference meet last year, Colette Falsey pursues the opportunity to run in the conference meet for the second time in her career. Seven Illini look to be on the Big Ten roster for the first time as Meagan Hynes and Rachel Irion have both set personal bests this season. Stephanie Brown, Michlle Frigo, Lindsey Rakosnik, Natalie Wynn and Amanda Zamora will also compete on Friday for a chance to run in the championships meet next weekend.

The field will be smaller than what the Illini faced last weekend at the Pre-National meet, with four other schools competing. Butler, ranked fifth in the Midwest Region along with Loyola (Ill.), Missouri and Bradley will be other teams running the course.

At the Pre-National meet, Courtney Yaeger led the Illini for the third consecutive meet this year, as the Fighting Illini finished 17th. Yaeger cut 45 seconds off her previous personal best, posting a 6K time of 21:00. Amanda Fox finished with a time of 21:33 and crossed the line 98th overall. Alyssa Schneider followed closely behind, placing 109th with a time of 21:40. Madeline Aufmann nearly set a new personal best, finishing 133rd with a time of 21:50 and Katie Porada rounded out the Illinois scoring and placed 149th with a time of 21:57.

Six Illini also competed at the Bradley Classic, with Rachel Irion leading the group, posting a 6K time of 22:36. Stephanie Brown raced in her first meet, finishing second on the squad with a time of 23:19 while Colette Falsey crossed the line with a time of 23:33. Amanda Zamora (23:37), Natalie Wynn (23:56) and Michelle Frigo (24:02) also competed in the 6K race.

The Orange and Blue will travel to East Lansing, Mich. for the Big Ten Championships on Sunday, Oct. 28 with the race starting at 9:45 a.m. CT.
