Illinois to Celebrate 100th Year of Cross Country

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. --The University of Illinois cross country program will celebrate its 100th year on the weekend of September 6-7, 2013. Decades of Illinois cross country will be represented over the weekend, as many former cross country athletes will be returning to Champaign for the festivities.
The reunion will begin on Friday Sept. 6 with a day of golf at the Stone Creek Golf Club, followed by the Alumni Run at the UI Arboretum at 5 p.m., where participants can run on the Illini course or cheer on fellow cross country alumni. At 6:30 p.m., attendees will make their way to the Memorial Stadium Colonnades Club for the 100 Years of Cross Country Party.
The celebration will continue on Saturday Sept. 7, beginning with the Pre-Game Tailgate Party at the Illini Legacy Lounge of Memorial Stadium at 9:30 a.m. Attendees will then watch the Fighting Illini football team take on the University of Cincinnati at 11 a.m. Former Illinois cross country runners will be recognized on the field during the third quarter of the game.
