Women's Cross Country Releases Schedule
Aug. 28, 2014
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Head coach Scott Jones is pleased to announce the schedule for the Illinois women's cross country team. Fans of the Illini program will have two opportunities to see the team compete at home, including this Friday, August 29, as it hosts the Illini Classic at the UI Arboretum.
"We will judge our season by our performances at the Big Ten meet, the NCAA Midwest Regional and the NCAA Championships," explained Jones. "Our regular-season schedule will provide us with competitive opportunities that prepare us for those championship meets and that will enable us to assess our progress along the way."
The regular season kicks off with the Illini Challenge. Following Friday's home event, the Illini will have a week away from competition before heading to Normal on Friday, September 12 for a dual with Illinois State. Another week without a scheduled meet will precede Illinois' final race of September. The Orange and Blue will be traveling to the Roy Griak Invite in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Saturday, September 27, ending the month with some stiff competition.
The Illini will only have two meets in October, the first of which is the Bradley Invite on Friday, October 17 in Peoria. One week later, Illinois will host the Illini Open at the UI Arboretum as the final tune-up before postseason racing begins.
The beginning of November marks the start of championship season for the Orange and Blue. On Sunday, November 2, the Illini will travel to Iowa City, Iowa for the Big Ten Championships. Up next for the Illini is the NCAA Midwest Regional, scheduled for Friday, November 14 in Peoria. The following week has the NCAA National Championships on the calendar, with competition set for Saturday, November 22 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
