    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Former University of Illinois cross country and distance standout Angela Bizzarri signed a partnership with Brooks Sports, Inc., announced the leading running company on Wednesday. Bizzarri, who is represented by Peter Stubbs Management, becomes the first Illini track athlete to sign a professional contract since Perdita Felicien inked a deal with Nike in 2004.

    "It is such a great honor to join the Brooks team," said Bizzarri in a Brooks press release. "This partnership isn't just about wearing their gear; they're like a passionate cheering section rooting for me every step of the way. With Brooks' help, I look forward to taking my running career to a new level that motivates more people to get out there and Run Happy."

    The Mason, Ohio, native, who will graduate this December with a degree in molecular and cellular biology, wrapped up her collegiate eligibility in 2010 as a three-time national champion, a nine-time All-American, a five-time Big Ten champion, a six-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, a two-time Academic All-American and a school record-holder in seven events. Bizzarri also was named the 2009 USTFCCCA National Cross Country Athlete of the Year, earned the Honda Sports Award for cross country, and was honored as the Illinois Dike Eddleman Female Athlete of the Year for three consecutive years, tying the school record.

    While completing her final semester on campus, she will continue to train with cross country coach Jeremy Rasmussen and the Illinois women's cross country team along with serving as an assistant coach.
