CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Senior Angela Bizzarri was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District team, announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The three-time national champion was selected to the District 5 first team for the second consecutive season and is now eligible to receive Academic All-America honors. Last year, ESPN the Magazine tabbed her a second-team Academic All-American.

Bizzarri is a nine-time All-American between track and field and cross country and won a pair of national titles this year, including victories at the 2009 NCAA Cross Country Championships and in the 3,000m at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The Big Ten Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year also won four conference titles in 2010, as she took home the top spot in the 3,000m and 5,000m at the indoor conference championships and tallied a thrilling 1,500m win while repeating as the 5,000m champion at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships. In the classroom, Bizzarri is a molecular & cellular biology major with a cumulative GPA of 3.62. The senior also has earned Academic All-Big Ten honors six times between cross country and track and field.

Up Next: Bizzarri and the seven other national qualifiers from the No. 24 Illinois women's track and field team head to Eugene, Ore., for the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships from June 9-12 at Oregon's historic Hayward Field. Bizzarri is the defending 5,000m champion and will attempt to become just the second American and third female distance runner to earn the track and field "triple crown" by winning a cross country, indoor and outdoor national title in the same year. Arizona's Amy Skieresz was the first to accomplish the feat during the 1996-97 season while Texas Tech's Sally Kipyego, who is originally from Kenya, did it twice during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons.
