Illinois Earns 10 Bids to NCAA West Preliminary Round

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Declarations for the NCAA Preliminary Track and Field Championships have been announced by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee. Illinois will compete in the west region and has earned a total of 10 entries into the meet, set to take place in Fayetteville, Arkansas on May 29-31.
The Illini earned 10 bids from nine individual athletes, including Jesica Ejesieme who qualified in both the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles. Mobolaji Adeokun will join Ejesieme in the 100m hurdles after placing eighth at the Big Ten Championships last weekend. In the 800m, both Ahlivia Spencer and Chloe Schmidt qualified for the Preliminary Round, while Mariah Smith and Jazjuan Wallace-Sipp will compete in the discus.
After running the second-fastest 10,000m time in school history to score points at last weekend's Big Ten Championships, Alyssa Schneider has earned a bid to the Preliminary Round in the event. Indoor conference champion and outdoor runner-up Kandie Bloch-Jones will compete in the high jump, while Asia Thomas earned a spot in the 400m.
The top-12 finishers in each event will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon on June 11-14.
