CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - University of Illinois' women's track and field athlete Ashley Spencer was added to The Bowerman watch list, an award which is given to the top collegiate track and field athlete. This is Spencer's first appearance on the watch list and the second for the Illini as Angela Bizzarri appeared on the list on Jan. 12, 2010.
"Ashley (Spencer) being named to the Bowerman Award watch list is a great honor," head coach Tonja Buford-Bailey said. "It says a lot about our program and that we have such an outstanding student-athlete like Ashley participating in it. She has been representing us well and I'm sure she will continue to in the future."
Spencer, a freshman from Indianapolis, Ind., has had a record-setting first year as an Illini.
