PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Illinois track and field senior Aja Evans earned Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honors for the second consecutive week, announced by the conference office on Wednesday. The four-time All-American won the shot put title for the second straight meet, taking the top spot at Tennessee's SeaRay Relays with a mark of 55-1 (16.79m) on April 10.
The selection marks the fifth Big Ten Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week award of Evans' career, tying Perdita Felicien for the most outdoor weekly accolades by an Illini. Last week, the Chicago, Ill., native posted the best outdoor opener of her collegiate career at the Mike Poehlein Invitational and picked up her first conference weekly laurel of the season. Evans won the shot put crown in West Lafayette, Ind., with a mark of 55-5 (16.89m), which currently ranks third in the country.
Illinois will compete at a pair of meets this Saturday, April 17, as the squad splits up for the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational in Baton Rouge, La., and the Dave Rankin Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind.
