Illinois Travels to Tiger Track Classic

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Illinois women's track and field team will head to the Tiger Track Classic this weekend. The meet will take place Friday and Saturday at the Hutsell-Rosen Track in Auburn, Ala. Illinois will send a full squad to compete in the 18-team field. A meet schedule and heat sheets can be found above.
Action begins on Friday afternoon with Mariah Smith competing in the hammer throw. Smith set a new personal-best in the event last weekend, throwing a mark of 42.18m to place 17th. Jennifer DeBellis will begin the day on Saturday morning in the pole vault, followed by Samone Thompson and Kawanna Brooks in the long jump. After throwing the seventh-best mark in school history in the shot put last weekend, Kristen Wilson will compete in the event this weekend alongside teammate Thompson. Jazjuan Wallace-Sipp will make her season debut this weekend, competing alongside teammate Smith in the discus. Last weekend, Smith threw the fourth-best mark in school history in the event. Big Ten champion Kandie Bloch-Jones and Samone Thompson will compete in the women's high jump, the final field event of the day.
Running events begin Saturday afternoon with Jesica Ejesieme, Kawanna Brooks, Mobolaji Adeokun and Samone Thompson in the 100m hurdles. Ejesieme won the event last weekend at the Arizona State Invitational, while Adeokun clocked a personal-best to place second. Ahlivia Spencer will compete in the 400m alongside Big Ten point-scorer Asia Thomas, followed by Kymbriona Taylor in the 100m dash. After clocking the eighth-fastest time in school history last weekend, Chloe Schmidt will be joined by Nicole Choquette and Lindsey Rakosnik in the 800m. Following the 800m, Jesica Ejesieme will represent the Illini in the 400m hurdles after winning the event last weekend at the Arizona State Invitational. Ahlivia Spencer and Asia Thomas will compete in their second event of the day next, joining teammates Kymbriona Taylor and Mobolaji Adeokun in the 200m, followed by Britten Petrey in the 3,000m steeplechase. Alyssa Schneider and Amanda Fox will compete in the 3,000m, followed by Stephanie Morgan in the invitational section of the 1,500m to end the day.
