CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Illinois women's track and field team will be back in action this weekend when they begin the outdoor season at the Arizona State Invitational. The meet will take place in Tempe, Ariz. on March 28-29. Joining the Orange & Blue at No. 21 Arizona State will be No. 6 Arizona and Big Ten opponent Iowa.

Mariah Smith and Kristen Wilson will kick off the meet for the Illini on Friday in the hammer throw beginning around 5:00 p.m. CT. Smith will then compete in the discus on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. CT. Jennifer DeBellis is coming off of a personal-best performance at the Big Ten Indoor Championships, where she set the second-best mark in the school history, and will begin her outdoor season at 1:00 p.m. CT on Saturday. Samone Thompson will represent the Illini in the long jump at 1:00 p.m., while Big Ten champion Kandie Bloch-Jones will compete in the high jump shortly after. Samone Thompson and Kristen Wilson will compete in the shot put at 2:15 p.m., the final field event of the day for Illinois.

Jesica Ejesieme and Kawanna Brooks had success during the indoor season in the 60m hurdles, scoring points for the Illini in the event at the Big Ten Indoor Championships, and look to carry the momentum into the outdoor season in the 100m hurdles. They will compete in the event alongside Samone Thompson and Mobolaji Adeokun at 1:05 p.m. CT. After entering the record books in three different events during the indoor season, Alyssa Schneider will compete in the 1,500m alongside teammates Stephanie Morgan and Amanda Fox at 1:43 p.m. Illinois will compete in the 4x100m relay for the first time this season as Mobolaji Adeokun, Moriyike Akinosun, Kawanna Brooks and Kymriona Taylor will run the event at 1:57 p.m. Brooks, Taylor and Akinosun will also compete in the 100m dash at 2:55 p.m. Britten Petrey will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase at 2:15 p.m., followed by Big-Ten scorer Asia Thomas in the 400m 20 minutes later.

Chloe Schmidt will lead a group of three Illini in the 800m at 3:17 p.m. Schmidt scored points for the Illini in the event at the Big Ten Indoor Championships and will run alongside teammates Colette Falsey and Nicole Choquette. Jesica Ejesieme and Mobolaji Adeokun will compete in the 400m hurdles at 3:40 p.m., followed by Asia Thomas, Moriyike Akinosun, Kymbriona Taylor and Samone Thompson in the 200m at 4:05. The final running event of the day will be the 4x400m relay featuring Nicole Choquette, Chloe Schmidt, Kymbriona Taylor and Asia Thomas.
