CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Illinois women's cross country team was honored as a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic team for the 2009 season, receiving the honor for the third consecutive year.
The Orange and Blue compiled a cumulative team GPA of 3.32 to receive the honor. Illinois was one of 10 Big Ten schools represented on the women's list. To be eligible to be an All-Academic Team, a team must have a minimum team cumulative GPA of 3.00 and compete and compile a team score at an NCAA Regional meet.
Last week, senior Angela Bizzarri was named the cross country Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the 2009 season while teammates Kristin Sutherland and Elizabeth Boyle were among the 104 athletes given All-Academic status for their efforts in the classroom and on the nation's cross country courses.
