CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Fighting Illini women's cross country team was honored as a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic team for the 2012 season, receiving the honor for the sixth consecutive year.
The Orange and Blue compiled a cumulative team GPA of 3.49 to receive the honor. Illinois was one of 11 Big Ten schools represented on the women's list. Illinois boasted the highest team GPA of the teams on the list, just edging second-place Minnesota (3.47).
Additionally, sophomore Alyssa Schneider received individual All-Academic honors. To qualify, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grad point average of 3.25 and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the NCAA region's top 15 (or top 10 percent) in 2012. Schneider earned a 3.78 GPA in Mathematics.
A total of 200 institutions represented 30 conferences that compose the group. The Big East had the most squads make the list with 12, but the Big Ten and Conference USA followed with 11.
