CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Illinois women's track and field team returns to the UI Armory this Saturday, Feb. 22 when they host the Orange & Blue Open. Joining Illinois in the final meet of the regular indoor season will be Illinois State and Missouri Baptist. Field events will begin at 10 a.m., with running events starting at noon. Illini Classic champion Kymbriona Taylor will get things started in the 60m dash alongside teammates Claire Kieger, Lateshia Dove, Germainy Debbie Mokeleba and Moriyike Akinosun. The same group will also compete in the 200m dash. Mobolaji Adeokun, Kawanna Brooks, Jesica Ejesieme and Samone Thompson will compete in the hurdles, followed by five Illini in the mile run. Colette Falsey and Stephanie Morgan, who hold top-five times in the event for the Illini this season, will compete alongside teammates Courtney Ackerman, Amanda Fox and Britten Petrey.
Asia Thomas headlines the 400m dash, as she's notched two top-10 finishes in the event this season, and will compete alongside teammates Chloe Schmidt and Kaleigh Evans, who will compete in the event for the first time this season. Nicole Choquette and Michelle Frigo will represent the Illini in the 800m run, while Rachel Irion and Britten Petrey will compete in the 3,000m. The final running event of the day will be the 4x400m relay.
Kandie Bloch-Jones is coming off of a second-place finish at the Tyson Invitational, where she set the fourth-best mark in school history in the high jump. The mark is also the best in the Big Ten this season. She will be joined by teammate Samone Thompson, who placed fourth at the Illini Open. Thompson will also join Kristen Wilson in the shot put, while Mariah Smith will represent the Illini in the weight throw. Jennifer DeBellis and Nicole Demarais will compete in the pole vault. DeBellis is coming off of a fifth-place finish at the Spire Invitational, where she set the sixth-best mark in school history, while DeMarais set a personal-best mark at the meet. The long jump competition will feature Kawanna Brooks, Mobolaji Adeokun and Samone Thompson.
This will be the final meet of the regular season for the Illini, as they travel to the 2014 Big Ten Indoor Championships in Geneva, Ohio on Feb. 28-March 1.
