CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Fighting Illini women's track and field team appeared as No. 15 in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll on Monday. The Orange and Blue notched four event titles, two Illini set school records and notched 11 performances that cracked the schools top-10 lists.

"Being ranked this week is a tribute to our effort this past weekend," head coach Tonja Buford-Bailey said. "We had eight individuals score points for us on the national level so I'm really proud of our team. This is a big confidence booster heading into conference in a few weeks."

The Illini jump 21 spots to No. 15 in the country after eight individuals scored points for the team on the national level. Over the weekend, sophomore Ashley Spencer and junior Samantha Murphy both set school records and won their respective events. Freshman Morolake Akinosun finished first in the 60m after matching her personal best time in the event. The Illini also won the 4x400m relay with a time that set a new meet record.

The Orange and Blue team will have next weekend off but then travel back to Geneva, Ohio to compete in the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23.
