Small Group to Compete at Indiana Relays

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- A select group of Illinois women's track ad field teams return to competition this weekend as they travel to the Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington, Ind., to compete in the Indiana Relays on Friday, Jan. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 26. Illinois will be one of 30 teams to compete as the meet begins at 2 p.m. CT on Friday with invitational competition from 6-8 and Saturday's competition starts at 9 a.m. CT with invitational field events throughout the day ad invitational races starting at 2:45 p.m. CT.
Illinois will send 15 athletes to the meet, with all but one competing in individual events on Friday. Junior Moriyike Akinosun starts things off for the Illini in the 60m dash at 2:45 p.m. CT, followed by the pair of senior Madeline Aufmann and freshman Michelle Frigo in the mile. A trio of Illini will run the 3,000m including freshman Alyssa Schneider, junior Meghan Frigo and senior Michelle Stratton. Mariah Smith is one of two throwers competing at the meet, as she looks to improve her weight throw mark at 4:20 p.m. The pole vault crew of Stephanie Richartz, Elizabeth Eitzen and Jennifer DeBellis continue their success in the early indoor season at 5:30 p.m.
Kristen Wilson will be the lone Illini to compete in the shot put event beginning at 5:45 p.m. while junior Katie Porada and Chloe Schmidt look to improve their times in the mile and 600m, respectively. Sophomore Colette Falsey wraps things up on the track on Friday night as she looks to continue her early season success, running the 3,000m at 7:40 p.m. CT.
Four Illini will compete on Saturday, beginning with Meagan Hynes in the 5,000m at 10:45 a.m., followed by Aufmann running the 800m a few hours later. Porada and sophomore Chloe Schmidt will conclude Illinois' action at the Gladstein Fieldhouse when they look to improve their 800m time at 2:10 p.m. CT.
The Illini squad will be back in action next weekend when they compete in the Husker Invitational on Friday, Feb. 1 and Saturday, Feb. 2.
