Schneider Leads Illini at Boilermaker Invitational

West Lafayette, Ind. -- The Illinois women's cross country team finished fourth at the Boilermaker Invitational on Friday. The 6K race was held at the Boilermaker Cross Country Course, site of the 2013 Big Ten Championships, and featured four Big Ten teams, including Illinois. Redshirt sophomore Alyssa Schneider led the squad for the second week in a row, finishing fifth overall with a time of 21:34.9.
Following Schneider was sophomore Amanda Fox, finishing 13th overall with a time of 22:17.4. Sophomore Natalie Wynn finished third for the Orange and Blue and 20th overall with a personal-best 6K time of 22:34.7, while freshman Audrey Blazek crossed the finish line in 23:05.8 to place 32nd overall in her second meet as an Illini. Freshman Hanna Winter ran a 6K time of 23:14.8, and redshirt sophomore Britten Petrey clocked in at 23:28.9 to score points for the team in her first meet of the season.
Sophomore Lindsey Rakosnik crossed the finish line with a time of 23:33.9 to finish seventh for the team, while freshman Kim Seger clocked a 23:49.8 in her second meet as an Illini. Junior Chloe Schmidt finished with a time of 23:55.7, and sophomore Michelle Frigo ran a personal-best 6K time of 23:56.6. Freshmen Megan Lemersal (23:59.4), Ellie Palacios (24:03.4) and Valerie Bobart (24:44.8) gained valuable experience, competing in their second collegiate meet.
Michigan won the race with 16 points, with four Wolverines finishing in the top-four. Taylor Pogue won the race with a time of 21:18.0, with teammates Brook Handler (21:19.4), Megan Weschler (21:23.6) and Erin Finn (21:31.1) finishing second, third, and fourth respectively.
The Illini have three weeks off before traveling to South Bend, Ind. for the Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 4.
