Illinois Concludes Action at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa. -- The Illinois women's track and field wrapped up action at the Drake Relays on Saturday with a runner-up finish in the shuttle hurdle relay. Individually, the Illini notched two top-10 finishes as Jesica Ejesieme placed fourth in the 100m hurdles finals and Jennifer DeBellis tied for ninth in the pole vault.
The shuttle hurdle relay got off to strong start this morning, clocking a time of 57.03 to place third in the prelims and qualify for the finals. In the finals, the group of Jesica Ejesieme, Kawanna Brooks, Mobolaji Adeokun and Samone Thompson improved its time and finished runner-up with a time of 54.95, which ranks just outside Illinois' all-time list.
The Illini also got strong individual performances from Jesica Ejesieme, Jennifer DeBellis and Britten Petrey. Ejesieme placed fourth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.90. The senior currently ranks second in the Big Ten in the event. In the pole vault, Jennifer DeBellis cleared a season-best height of 3.90m, just off of her personal-best, to tie for ninth-place. Britten Petrey continued her success in the 3,000m steeplechase, placing 13th with a personal-best time of 10:49.81.
The Orange & Blue are back in action next weekend for the Billy Hayes Invitational on Saturday, May 3.
