Six Illini Finish in Top-Five at LSU
April 20, 2013
BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Illinois women's track and field team wrapped up competition at the LSU Alumni Gold Meet on Saturday. Junior Amanda Duvendack and redshirt-freshman Jazjuan Wallace-Sipphighlighted the meet as both set lifetime bests in their respective events.
"The highlight of the meet was the 4x400 with our four 800m runners," head coach Tonja Buford-Baileysaid. "They ran a really great time. Amanda and Sam both split mid-54 and it shows that their training is on track. Amanda was a star today and seems to be getting more confident with each meet. I'm really happy that Jazjuan is improving each week in the discus. It shows a great amount of upsize for her in the future. We put together a group in the 4x100 that had no experience at all working together so I'm pleased with the time of 45.10. Jesica also showed tremendous effort in the 400 hurdles and I'm happy with where she is now."
Duvendack crossed the finish line with a career-best time of 2:06.92 to finish the 800m race. Teammate Samantha Murphy finished first for the Illini in the 800m, placing fourth with a time of 2:06.09 while junior Ahlivia Spencerfinished the race with a time of 2:08.12. The 4x400m crew of Ahl. Spencer, Murphy, Duvendack and sophomore Chloe Schmidt performed well, finishing with a time of 3:42.73. Murphy and Duvendack highlighted the relay, both running 54 seconds splits.
