Illini Record Four Top-Five Finishes at LSU Alumni Gold

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Illinois women's track and field team competed at the LSU Alumni Gold meet on Saturday, where four Illini placed in the top-five in their respective events. In a loaded field that included three teams ranked in the top-10, Illinois notched 11 top-10 finishes in a total of 12 events.
Ahlivia Spencer made her outdoor debut on Saturday and competed in the 800m. The reigning Big Ten indoor champion clocked a time of 2:07.40, which is the third-fastest time in the conference this season, to place third. Chloe Schmidt also ran the 800m and placed sixth with a time of 2:08.56, while Stephanie Morgan (2:12.29) and Lindsey Rakosnik (2:12.72) took fifth and seventh, respectively, in the `B' section of the 800m. Jesica Ejesieme competed in two events, placing seventh in the 100m hurdles and eighth in the 400m hurdles, while Kawanna Brooks clocked a personal-best to place 11th in the `B' section of the 100m hurdles. After placing first in the 3,000m steeplechase for three straight weekends, Britten Petrey competed in the 1,500m for the first time this season. The sophomore shaved over 20 seconds off of her personal-best time to place second in the event with a time of 4:26.62.
After throwing the third-best mark in school history last weekend, Mariah Smith placed fourth in the discus with a mark of 48.59m. Jazjuan Wallace-Sipp (45.03m) also competed in the event and placed ninth. Kristen Wilson took seventh in the shot put with a mark of 4.10m, while Kawanna Brooks (5.63m) set a new season-best in the long jump to place ninth.
Illinois will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Des Moines, Iowa for the prestigious Drake Relays.
