Two Illini Win Event Titles at Tiger Track Classic

AUBURN, Ala. -- The University of Illinois women's track and field team competed at the Tiger Track Classic this weekend, where two Illini won event titles. The Illini notched 17 top-10 finishes, while five Illini set new personal bests. Alyssa Schneider and Britten Petrey each won their events, while Chloe Schmidt and Stephanie Morgan recorded second-place finishes.
Kymbriona Taylor finished sixth in the 100m, clocking a time of 11.99, and also notched a top-10 finish in the 200m She clocked a personal-best time of 24.49 to place 10th in the event. Jescia Ejesieme took fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.73, and also placed eighth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.79. The Illini notched three top-10 finishes in the 800m, led by Chloe Schmidt. Schmidt placed second with a time of 2:08.95, followed by Nicole Choquette (2:12.25) and Lindsey Rakosnik (2:13.25) to place sixth and eighth, respectively.
Britten Petrey won the 3,000m steeplechase for the second straight week, clocking a time of 10:54.98, which is just off of her personal best. Alyssa Schneider entered the record books once again, winning the 3,000m with the fifth-fastest time in school history. Amanda Fox also competed in the event and placed fourth with the 10th-fastest time in school history. Stephanie Morgan notched a second-place finish in the 1,500m, while the 4x400m relay team of Asia Thomas, Kymbriona Taylor, Chloe Schmidt and Nicole Choquette took sixth.
Jazjuan Wallace-Sipp made her season debut and placed eighth in the discus with a mark of 46.02m, while Mariah Smith (44.79m) took ninth. Kandie Bloch-Jones placed seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.65m, while Kristen Wilson finished sixth in the shot put. Samone Thompson set a huge personal best in the long jump, placing ninth with a mark of 5.53.
The Illini return to Champaign next weekend for the Illinois Twilight on Saturday, April 12. The meet will take place at the Illinois Track and Soccer Stadium, and marks the first time the Illini will host an outdoor meet since 2009.
