AUSTIN, Texas -- The Illinois women's track and field team continued their success at the Texas Relays today, qualifying three events for the finals. Freshman Morolake Akinosun, the 4x100m and 4x400m relay squad finished in the top-eight of their respective events to compete tomorrow. Junior Stephanie Richartz highlighted the day, finishing close to her personal best mark in the pole vault.
"We had really solid performances in both relays," head coach Tonja Buford-Bailey said. "It was important to do well in these relays because those are two events we will try to score points with on the Big Ten and national level. I'm proud of both of those teams going into tomorrows finals. Morolake advanced to the finals of the 100m so we're going to try to represent well tomorrow. Coach Erb continues to do a great job with coaching Stephanie this season. She is really continuing to improve and came extremely close to her personal best."
In the field events, defending Big Ten champion Stephanie Richartz finished fifth with a season best mark of 14-1 3/4 (4.31m). The junior's mark is close to her personal best mark of 4.34m which was set at last year's Big Ten meet.
Akinosun advanced to the finals of the 100m, running a career-best time of 11.44 in the prelims earlier today. Akinosun finished third in her heat and seventh overall as the time ranks sixth fastest in Illini history.

The Illini won their section and finished with the sixth fastest time of the prelims. The Illini continued their success in the relays as the 4x400 quartet of Hollingsworth, Akinosun, Thomas and Spencer clocked a time of 3:37.30 which was sixth fastest and moved them into the finals of the event. They finished second in their heat.
