Tom Sage enters his first season as a volunteer coach for the women's program. Sage comes to Illinois after working with the men's and women's programs at Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

In 2011 - Sage coached the TAMUCC Islanders to seven school records. Working specifically with the men's and women's throws, jumps and multis, Sage's athletes set school records in the men's and women's high jump, women's javelin, shot put, discus, and heptathlon.

In 2010 - Sage coached at Brookfield Central High School in Wisconsin. Being tasked with rebuilding a sprints and jumps program for the Lancers, Sage regionally qualified athletes in the 200m, pole vault, 4x200m, 4x400m, and 4x800m. Of those athletes, Sage qualified a 200m runner and a pole vaulter for state. Sage assisted in helping vaulter Matt Krogman earn a state title.

Prior to his coaching experience, Sage competed as a decathlete at Marquette University, in Milwaukee, Wisc. He qualified for the Conference USA Championship Meet his freshman year and the Big East Conference Championship Meets his remaining years. Sage finished 8th place in the high jump at the 2005 Conference USA Championships. While competing in the Big East, Sage finished as high as sixth in the heptathlon and fourth in the decathlon. Sage is a multiple IC4A qualifier and currently ranks third all-time at Marquette in both heptathlon and decathlon. Sage left his mark on the Marquette record books placing in the top ten all time in the javelin, 60 meter hurdles, and pole vault.

In 2006 - Sage got his start in coaching at Pewaukee High School in Wisc, where he was in charge of building a high jump program, Sage in his first year helped set a school record and qualify the first high jumper in school history to the WIAA state track meet. In his second year as coach at Pewuakee, Sage qualified two more high jumpers to the state track meet as well as re-breaking the high jump school record. In addition to helping his high jumpers qualify to state, Sage helped a qualify a 100m hurdler, 4x400m, 4x800m, and 800m runners to the state meet.

In high school, Sage is a two-time WIAA state champion in the 4x400m (2003, 2004) as well as part of a Wisconsin indoor state championship team (2004).

Sage, earned his Bachelors from Marquette University.

A native of New Berlin, WI, Sage resides in Urbana, IL.
