Head coach Tonja Buford-Bailey's track and field/cross country program ranks eighth in the NCAA.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Illinois women's track and field/cross country program finished eighth in the nation in the Terry Crawford Program of the Year standings, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Friday.
The inaugural award is given to the most outstanding NCAA Division I women's track and field/cross country program on a yearly basis, with standings based on each school's finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships and NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Tonja Buford-Bailey's Fighting Illini placed eighth with a total of 50 points by finishing 10th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, tying for 12th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and tying for 27th at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Oregon was named the 2008-09 Terry Crawford Program of the Year with a total of 13.5 points, edging out Florida State which finished runner-up with 15 points. Big Ten schools Michigan (fourth, 34 points) and Minnesota (sixth, 44 points) also appeared in the standings along with Illinois.
