WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The University of Illinois women's cross country team ran in the Purdue Invitational, at the Ackerman Hills Golf Course in West Lafayette this afternoon. The Illini finished 3rd in the three team meet, which was won by the host Boilermakers. Purdue's winning score of 22 points was followed by Northwestern with 35 and the Illini with 79.
Illinois withheld its top two runners, senior Tara Mendozza and freshman Cecelia Williams, from competing. Instead the goal was for the Illini's other scoring runners to improve their times and race performances.
The Illini were led by freshman Amber Hunt (Naperville, Ill./Central) as she finished the 4,700 meter course in ninth place with a time of 17:46.00. Senior Laura Robbins (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and freshman Lyndsey Dunnavan (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) continued their history of competing side by side. Robbins finished 16th in a time of 18:38.20 with Dunnavan one step behind in 17th place with a time of 18:38.40. Illinois' fourth and fifth scorers were Danielle Fonzino (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and Jamie Paul (Rockford, Ill./Guilford).
The Illini will be back in action next Saturday at the Pre-NCAA Meet held on the campus of Indiana University.
