Kevin Sullivan enters his third season as a volunteer assistant for the University of Illinois cross-country team. Last year, Sullivan played a vital role in the team's historical season. His insight into training and racing tactics proved invaluable as was his help recruiting and organizing official visits.
A 1998 graduate of the University of Michigan, Sullivan is widely considered one of the top distance runners in Big Ten history as he became just the third runner in Big Ten history to win four cross country titles. On the track, Sullivan was equally impressive, winning NCAA crowns in the indoor mile and Distance Medley Relay, and outdoor 1500m. Sullivan also won four indoor mile and outdoor 1,500m crowns at the Big Ten Championships.
After a stellar career at Michigan, Sullivan signed a contract to run professionally for Reebok begining in 1998 and continues to be sponsored by Reebok to this day. Sullivan has taken his success to the world level, winning the silver medal in the mile at the 2001 Goodwill Games in Brisbane, Australia. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics Sullivan finished fifth in the 1500m. His finish in Sydney was the best by a Canadian track athlete at the 2000 Olympics. In his second Olympic Games, the 2004 Athens Olympics, Sullivan qualified for the 1500m semi final.
Sullivan also holds the Canadian record in the 1500m, mile, indoor two mile, indoor 3000m, junior (19&under) 1500m, and indoor junior 1500m. Sullivan is also a very accomplished cross country runner. While at Michigan he placed fourth (FR), third (SO), eighth (JR), and second (SR) overall at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
