Kevin Sullivan enters his third season as a volunteer assistant for the University of Illinois cross-country team. Last year, Sullivan played a vital role in the team's historical season. His insight into training and racing tactics proved invaluable as was his help recruiting and organizing official visits.

A 1998 graduate of the University of Michigan, Sullivan is widely considered one of the top distance runners in Big Ten history as he became just the third runner in Big Ten history to win four cross country titles. On the track, Sullivan was equally impressive, winning NCAA crowns in the indoor mile and Distance Medley Relay, and outdoor 1500m. Sullivan also won four indoor mile and outdoor 1,500m crowns at the Big Ten Championships.

After a stellar career at Michigan, Sullivan signed a contract to run professionally for Reebok begining in 1998 and continues to be sponsored by Reebok to this day. Sullivan has taken his success to the world level, winning the silver medal in the mile at the 2001 Goodwill Games in Brisbane, Australia. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics Sullivan finished fifth in the 1500m. His finish in Sydney was the best by a Canadian track athlete at the 2000 Olympics. In his second Olympic Games, the 2004 Athens Olympics, Sullivan qualified for the 1500m semi final.

Sullivan also holds the Canadian record in the 1500m, mile, indoor two mile, indoor 3000m, junior (19&under) 1500m, and indoor junior 1500m. Recently Sullivan has been exploring a move up in distance to the 5000m. In his first attempt at the distance since 1997 he improved his personal best time to 13:27 at the Mt. Sac Relays in April.

Sullivan is also a very accomplished cross country runner. While at Michigan he placed fourth (FR), third (SO), eighth (JR), and second (SR) overall at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. He has represented Canada in 10 World Cross Country Championships recording best finishes of 13th as a junior (Spain, 1993) and 17th as a senior (Brussels, 2004).

Currently Sullivan is training for the 2006 World Cup, 2007 World Championships and 2008 Olympics where he plans on representing Canada in the 1500m.

Sullivan gradutated Magna Cum Laude in 1998 with a degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Michigan. He is married to Illinois women's cross country coach Karen Harvey and resides in Urbana, Ill.
