CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - University of Illinois sophomore middle blocker Anna Dorn was named to the Capital One Academic All-District V First Team, the organization announced, becoming the Illini's fourth Academic All-District selection in the last four years. In order to be considered for Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must be in at least his or her second year at an institution, have a grade-point average of 3.3 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor to the team.
As a first-team selection, Dorn will advance to Academic All-America voting, which concludes on Nov. 20, with the announcement of the Academic All-America teams coming on Thursday, Dec. 13.
Dorn currently ranks second on the Illini squad with 101 total blocks, 1.00 per set, and third with 166 kills, 1.64 per set. She also has a stellar 3.95 grade-point average, best on the team, as a kinesiology major. She ranks fifth in the Big Ten and 26th nationally in hitting percentage (.380) and has hit .400 in 12 matches this season. She was named to all-tournament teams at the Dayton Flyer Classic, the Big Ten/Big East Challenge and the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational.
Dorn led Illinois in total blocks (183) and hitting percentage (.344) in 2011, ranking fourth in the Big Ten and 31st in the nation in blocks per set (1.28) in all matches. She also ranked third in the conference with 1.36 blocks per set in Big Ten matches, and ranked third nationally among freshmen in blocks per set. Her 183 total blocks on the season ranked third in school history, and tied she the single-match school record with 13 block assists in a win at No. 8 Penn State.
