Champaign, Ill. - The Fighting Illini volleyball team will attempt to make "History at Huff" on Friday, Sept. 24 when No. 5 Illinois hosts No. 2 Penn State. Illinois intends to fill Huff Hall to capacity for the first time since 1992. In addition, the Fighting Illini will try to end the Nittany Lions' three-year unbeaten streak in Big Ten play that crosses 65-straight matches.
Tickets are now available for purchase at FightingIllini.com for the Penn State match. The $5 general admission tickets are generally not sold online, but special measures have been established to ensure the match has every opportunity to sell out. The online opportunity will end if the 1,500- ticket maximum is reached. A Friday, Sept. 17 deadline is in place for online ticket orders to be received by mail.
"We're very excited the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics has created an online ticket sales opportunity for the Penn State match," Illinois Volleyball Head Coach Kevin Hambly said. "This unprecedented step shows the department's commitment to our student-athletes and the success of our program. We hope people take advantage of this unique opportunity to make History at Huff."
Should tickets remain available after Friday, they would be available for purchase at the Athletics Box Office located at Assembly Hall until they sell out. The doors will open at 6 pm and special "holds" have been put in place to account for the standard number of Go Illini Card users, Fighting Illini Kids Club card users, and Illinois students. Individuals from these groups will be granted access to Huff Hall on a first-come, first served basis. Use of the Go Illini Card and Fighting Illini Kids Club are always subject to seating availability as noted on the cards. Anyone wishing to guarantee seats may take the extra step of buying a ticket.
"It has been 18 years since Illinois has sold out a volleyball match at Huff Hall," Assistant Athletics Director Chris Hanna. "This is one of the marquee matchups in NCAA volleyball this year and we have a chance to do something truly special. We anticipate nothing less than an electric environment for History at Huff."
FightingIllini.com will keep fans posted with the latest information regarding History at Huff.
