Illinois Earns Third Straight AVCA Team Academic Award
Aug. 4, 2014
Champaign, Ill. - For the third year in a row, the 2013-14 Fighting Illini volleyball squad was named a recipient of the AVCA Team Academic Award. The award, which was initiated in 1992-93, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that display excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) for the entire year. Illinois is one of 134 Division I institutions to qualify for this year's award and one of just three Big Ten programs to do so, joining Iowa and Rutgers.
The Illini take home the team award after seven members of the Orange and Blue received 2013 Academic All-Big Ten honors, three of whom were also named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars. Additionally, rising senior Anna Dorn captured her second straight First-Team Academic All-District award, demonstrating her strong commitment to the University both on and off the court.
