Champaign, Ill. - In honor of the 30th anniversary of the Illinois volleyball support group, the Illini Networkers, the Fighting Illini are hosting a reunion weekend on May 17-18, featuring a golf outing, a reception with players and coaches of past and present, and an alumni match at historic Kenney Gym. A special invitation has been extended to the 1986, 1987 and 1988 teams to honor their accomplishments on the court, which included back-to-back trips to the NCAA Final Four 25 years ago. All of the events are open to the public, with some carrying an entrance fee.

"This is going to be a special event honoring the 30 years of support that the Illini Networkers have provided, while showcasing the Illinois volleyball program's greatest achievements," said Head Coach Kevin Hambly. "The community will get an opportunity to see how the program has evolved throughout its history and have the chance to meet some of the Illini greats who helped make this team what it is today."

The weekend begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 17, with an Illini Reunion Golf Outing at the University of Illinois Golf Course in Savoy, Ill. The cost  to play is $40 per person. Contact Illini Networker Dave Lawrence at (217) 359-4583 to reserve your place.

Following the morning of golf, join Fighting Illini of past and present for the Illini Volleyball Family Reunion Celebration held at the 77 Club of Memorial Stadium from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served, as members of the Illini Faithful have the chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones while celebrating the milestones of the Illinois volleyball program. Notable attendees will include three-time AVCA All-Americans Mary Eggers '88 and Nancy Brookhart '89, along with 1989 All-American Laura Bush '90, who all helped lead the Illini to the NCAA National Semifinals in 1987 and 1988.  The cost of the reception is $20 per person. Reservations are required; please RSVP by May 10 by sending the bottom part of the reservation form found here to the Varsity "I" Association.

The fun continues on Saturday, May 18, when the Illini take a trip down memory lane by hosting an alumni volleyball match in Kenney Gym, where the Fighting Illini played the majority of their matches from 1974 to 1990. Admission to the match, which will begin at 10 a.m., is free to all fans, and will be followed by a deli lunch at the gym provided by the Illini Networkers. While tickets are complimentary, the Networkers have requested that anyone planning to stay for lunch RSVP to illininetworkers@gmail.com to help provide an estimated head count to ensure there is enough food for everyone.

The current Illini squad will be leaving for international competition in Italy the following weekend, so this will provide a perfect opportunity for a great send off. Long time fans can enjoy seeing players and coaches of the past and get an opportunity to learn "Where Are They Now" for the big names of Illini volleyball. This will be a great weekend full of spirit and friendly faces making it an event that you won't want to miss.
