Networkers to Host Chop Chef Competition on February 28
Jan. 29, 2013
Champaign, Ill. - The Illini Networkers will host "Chop Chef Champaign" on Thursday, Feb, 28, 2013, to help raise money for the Fighting Illini Volleyball team's trip to Europe. The exciting new fundraiser will feature Illinois Volleyball Head Coach Kevin Hambly, who will compete against other Champaign celebrity chefs to prepare an elegant dinner, complete with wine pairings.
"I am really excited to be a part of this event," said Hambly. "We knew we had to raise the money for our trip to Europe this year. Parham Parastaran, who owns and started the Crazy K charity event, started talking about fundraisers and we wanted to do something atypical that people will not only really enjoy but also be a part of. Parham has really taken the lead on this event and has been incredible. It has been a fun to talk about a vision of what it could be and then to see it evolve over time to be something we think will be special."
In addition to an evening of great food, guests will have the opportunity to vote alongside a panel of celebrity judges for the title of Champaign's 2013 Chop Chef.
"For those that come their will be nonstop food. They will help judge and actually be a part of the event. It will be a completely interactive night that we feel will be very unique and one that people will talk about for a long time."
The event will take place at 6 p.m. on Feb. 28 at the iHotel, located at 1900 South First Street in Champaign, Ill. Tickets are $150 and all proceeds will benefit the University of Illinois volleyball team, particularly in helping fund a European tour.
"We will play against incredible competition in Europe," said Hambly, "which will without question help our players take the next step competitively and put us back on the path to competing for National Championships. But, will also be very educational. I am looking forward to showing our girls Europe, many of whom have never left the country, and discovering together all of the historic and cultural things a trip like this can teach.
"It will be an incredible bonding experience as well. We will put the girls in situations where they will be forced to work together and discover more about themselves, each other and where the leadership is going to come from as we get into next season."
