During his high school coaching career, Gordon aided the varsity team that advanced to the state championship match in 2007. Outside of school, Gordon served as an assistant coach for the Stingray Volleyball Club from 2007-09. Gordon continued his club coaching career with Bay to Bay, his former club team, during the summers following his first two years at college.
While a student at UC-Santa Barbara, Gordon served as a student assistant coach for the Gauchos, who advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2013. Additionally, he spent his final two years of college as an assistant coach with the 18-1s at the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club.
A talented setter, Gordon played five seasons for Bay to Bay in Northern California. In his 18s year, under head coach Ken Shibuya, Bay to Bay became the first team in the league ever to go undefeated (40-0). He continued his playing career at UCSB, playing for the club team all four years and taking over as club president as a sophomore. The Gauchos club finished in the top 10 nationally all four years, including advancing to the national championship match his sophomore season.
Gordon graduated from UC-Santa Barbara in 2014 with a degree in biopsychology.
