1998: Preseason first-team All-Big Ten selection...Veteran setter who is entering her fourth year as the starting setter for the Illini...Named to the AVCA All-District II team and to the GTE/Co/SIDA Academic All-District V team...Honorable mention All-Big Ten pick...1998 Big Ten Player of the Week on October 12...As a junior she led the Big Ten and was second in the nation in assists, averaging 15.39 per game...Set the Big Ten and Illinois varsity record for assists per game (15.49) and total assists in a season (1,859)...Has 4,611 career assists and needs 939 more to become the all-time Illinois assists leader and needs 1,413 more to become the Big Ten's career assists leader.
1997: Started all 30 matches at setter and played in all but one game...Was named Co-Big Ten Player of the Week, Sept. 2, after earning MVP honors at the University of Virginia's Jefferson Cup Tournament...Recorded a triple-double versus Virginia with a career high 11 kills plus 60 assists and 10 digs...Earned all-tournament honors at the Illini/Pepsi Classic and The Chicago Challenge...Had 1,410 assists on the year, which ranked as the sixth most ever by an Illini...Her 13.82 assists per game was the 11th-best average in nation and the second best in the Big Ten...Posted a season high 78 assists at Michigan State, Sept. 28...Hit a career-best .625 (6-1-8) vs. Coastal Carolina, Aug. 29...Earned Academic All-Big Ten honors...Named a George Huff Award winner and the team's Jim Bayne Award winner for academic excellence.
1996: Started 22 matches at setter...Did not start six matches due to mononucleosis...Led Illinois with 1,162 total assists, the 10th most in school history for one season...Recorded a season-high 94 assists, the third-most ever for an Illini in a match, Nov. 29 at Michigan...Finished second in the Big Ten in assists, averaging 13.83 per match...Averaged 14.49 assists during each conference match, also the second-most in the Big Ten.
High School Helped lead Stew-Stras to a third-place finish in the IHSA state tourney...Named to the Volleyball Monthly "Fab 50" team...IHSA record holder for all-time assists (2,354), season assists (799) and state tournament assists (78)...Named all-state in 1995 by the Chicago Tribune and Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette...Earned all-state News-Gazette honors in 1994 as well.
Personal Parents are Dennis and Mary Beitz...Kinesiology major...Was student council president and National Honor Society president in high school...1996 class valedictorian...Attended same high school as former Illini standout and All-Big Ten player Laura Bush, who Beitz lists as her Fighting Illini hero when she was growing up...Uncle, John Widersheim, lettered for the UI baseball team in 1977-78...Enjoys playing the piano and reading.
