July 8, 2009
Meeting International d'athlétisme de la Province de Liège Homepage CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - All-American Angela Bizzarri will attempt to qualify to represent the United States at the World Championships in running next week at the Meeting International d'athlétisme de la Province de Liège at the Naimette-Xhovément stadium in Belgium. The meet, commonly referred to as the Liege, serves as a unique opportunity for athletes to meet the standards for the upcoming World Championships. Bizzarri will race in the 5,000m at 1:40 p.m. CT on Wednesday, July 15. Bizzarri set herself up for this opportunity after finishing third and running a personal-best 15:33.02 in the 5,000m at the USA Track and Field Championships on June 26. The top three finishers in every event at the USA Championships qualify to compete for the United States at the World Championships if they have met the meet entry standards as set by the International Association Athletics Federation (IAAF). The women's `B' standard in the 5,000m is 15:25.00. If the Illini national champion breaks the 15:25.00 mark, she will qualify to compete at the World Championships, which will be held in Berlin, Germany beginning on August 15. Volunteer assistant coach Jackie Kropp will travel with Bizzarri to Liege, Belgium for the event. Race information and other news about the Liege can be found HERE.
