    Head coach Gary Winckler and his Fighting Illini women's track and field team traveled to Ft, Worth, Texas this weekend to compete in the Horned Frog Invitational. The Illini finished the day with four first-place finishes and one personal best.

    The Orange and Blue had an impressive day, despite training though their first outdoor competition. Junior LaNeisha Waller won the 100m hurdles with a personal best time of 13.39, beating her previous best by .4 seconds. Senior Yvonne Mensah took the 200m crown with a 23.64, while senior Kristina Jones won triple jump with a 40'0.25".

    Also experiencing success on the day was junior Mariesa Greene, who won javelin with an impressive mark of 136'10.00". Junior Briana Cunningham finished the day with a second-place spot in the 400m hurdles with a 1:01.88.

    "This was a hard training week for us," assistant coach Tonja Buford-Bailey said. "But, they ran personal bests, and really came through. We should definitely be ready for Texas Relays in a few weeks."

    The Illini return to action when they travel to Austin, Texas. to compete in the Texas Relays on April 5-7.
