Nov. 13, 2009
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Two five-star recruits, according to TennisRecruiting.net, will join the Fighting Illini women's tennis team for the 2010-11 season, as head coach Michelle Dasso announced the addition of Allison Falkin (Roswell, Ga./Tennis Academy of the South) and Michelle Kedzierski (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy), who each signed a national letter of intent with Illinois. A five-star rating on TennisRecruiting.net is second only to blue chip.
"Both Allison and Michelle are fierce competitors and will fit in very well with the Fighting Illini culture on our team," Dasso said.
Falkin is currently ranked No. 38 nationally on TennisRecruiting.net and fourth in the state of Georgia. This past summer, she teamed up with TCU's Kayla Duncan to win the USTA National Clay Court Doubles title in July and also won the Georgia State Closed Qualifying Championship in June, while last summer, she won the Coca-Cola ITF junior tournament.
"Allison has an excellent understanding of her game and how to make the little adjustments necessary in a match to break down her opponents and find the most success," Dasso said.
Kedzierski checks in at No. 53 in the country and holds the top spot in the state of Missouri. Additionally, Kedzierski won the Girls 18 Sweet 16 singles and doubles titles in 2007 and 2008, and also is a two-time state singles champion and three-time member of the Fed Cup national team.
"Michelle is a very strong, physical player who will continue to make huge strides in college with the high and consistent level of practice and match competition she will face," Dasso said.
