CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Junior Megan Fudge and sophomore Leigh Finnegan of the Illinois women's tennis team are set to begin action at the 2008 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships Pre-Qualifying Round Sept. 27-28. Fudge and Finnegan open play on Saturday, Sept. 27, with pre-qualifying for singles and doubles.

"Megan and Leigh need to approach the pre-qualifier (of the All-American) one match at a time, trust the hard work they've put in, and enjoy the experience this weekend," Illinois head coach Michelle Dasso said. "They are prepared mentally and physically and need to go out there and compete their tails off and look forward to the challenge. This is a very prestigious tournament and both these girls deserve to be there."

The 2008 All-American run for Fudge and Finnegan begins in the 64-player pre-qualifying field. To advance into the main draw of singles, Fudge and Finnegan must string together three straight match wins in pre-qualifying (Sept. 27-28) and then three in the qualifying draw (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) before joining the 32-player main draw bracket (Oct. 2-5).

In the opening round of the pre-qualifying singles draw, Finnegan will face preseason No. 97 Jelena Stanivuk of Baylor, while Fudge will square off against Berkeley Brock from NC State.

Fudge and Finnegan will pair up in the pre-qualifying doubles draw, taking on the Texas tandem Sarah Lancaster and Maggie Mello in the first round.

In doubles, the road to the main draw consists of three straight wins in pre-qualifying followed by three more in qualifying before joining the ranks of the 16-team main draw field.
