I've got good news and bad news. The good news is this may be the last blog you read that features that horrid freshman year picture where my hair is wet. The bad news, you still have to see my face. As you can tell, we have started off the year fresh, working on self-confidence and staying positive. A lot of you loyal fans (our parents) may have heard that we have all recently quit the tennis team in order to pursue our track careers. Since we were not able to begin official team practice until September 8th, the coaches decided that until then, we would call ourselves the track team.

We tested our limits everyday (usually at 7 am). The whole team ran a 7:05 mile (25 seconds faster than last year to indicate our goal of becoming top 25 in the nation). We ran the stadium stairs once a week. I passed the fitness test on the first try, as opposed to last year where it took me a good four tries. We have been lifting twice a week, and just moments ago we did a nice sand workout on the freezing cold sand-volleyball courts. Not to mention some track workouts, ultimate Frisbee, and some very intense individuals with the coaches.

Needless to say, we aren't very sore or tired. (I'm trying out this new thing called "sarcasm" I've never used it before, but apparently it is supposed to be funny.) However, the pain was temporary, whereas the pride that we felt from what we have accomplished is long lasting. I personally have achieved things that I never even imagined, and am incredibly proud of how well the team has worked together, and how much our freshmen are stepping up to the challenge.

On a much more serious note, I have started my sophomore year off right in a nice apartment located directly behind a campus hangout that keeps me up to date on my current music while I try to fall asleep at night. My roommate has a crazy accent; I can't really tell if she is German or British, and most importantly, I have already gotten extra credit in two of my classes.

This fall we are mixing things up a bit. Everyone is playing a couple different tournaments, so we will not all be traveling together. So be sure to follow all the Illini this fall and we will be sure to keep you updated on our results!

    Until next time,

    Go Illini!
