QUINTANA, Mexico - Melissa Kopinski wasted no time gearing up for her senior year. Last week, Kopinski travelled to Quintana Roo, Mexico where she competed in the $10,000 ITF Pro Circuit tournament located at the Grand Palladium Hotel and Resort. Kopinski teamed with Loreto Alonso Martinez of Spain where the duo went all the way to the semifinal round.

"We are so excited for Melissa as she had a great run and picked up her first WTA doubles points of her career. It was an excellent showing for her first tournament of the summer," said Illinois head coach Michelle Dasso.

Kopinski/Martinez gutted out a tough first round victory over Sofia Dmitrieva and Alexandra Morozova with both sets going to a tiebreak, 7-6(5), 7-6(4). In the quarters, the duo then outlasted Carolina Betancourt and Ximena Hermoso in a third set super tiebreak, 7-5, 4-6, 11-9.

In the semis, Kopinski/Martinez once again found themselves in another super tiebreak third set, but unfortunately did not come out on the winning side, falling just short of the championships, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.

"Im glad I got a good start to my tournaments this summer," said Kopinski. "Hoping to keep the momentum up as I play more and more. The experience has been incredible so far, really happy I am able to play amongst some great tennis players."

The 2013 All-American went 13-10 in singles last season, producing the third most wins on the team. In doubles, Kopinski recorded the the second most wins with an 11-9 mark.
