Illini Women's Tennis Adds Another Player for 2013-14
April 23, 2013
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Fighting Illini head coach Michelle Dasso announced Tuesday the signing of a third student-athlete to a letter of intent for 2013-14. Louise Kwong (Toronto, Ontario/Earl Haig Secondary School) will join the Illini for the 2013 fall season. Kwong was a finalist at the U18 Canadian Indoor Nationals last April. The Toronto native boasts two Canadian national titles, winning both the U12 and U14 championships.
"Louise is a lefty with a top-notch backhand, combined with the intangible qualities of a fierce work ethic and a competitive, driven demeanor," Dasso said. "I believe with that combination, she is one of the best-kept secrets in Canada. Louise has a positive personality, and the team is excited she is joining the Illini family. I look forward to her future competing for the Orange and Blue."
Kwong rounds out a solid recruiting class that also features five-star prospects, Jerricka Boone and Alexis Casati, who signed last fall.
Boone, a five-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net, is ranked 41st in the nation and second in Illinois and reached a career-high 28th in the nation in 2012. She is 26-16 over the past year with two wins over blue-chip prospects and 14 against fellow five-stars. She won the IHSA state tournament in singles as a freshman (2009-10) and junior (2011-12).
Casati, another five-star prospect by TennisRecruiting.net, is currently the 60th-ranked high school senior in the nation and fifth in Illinois and has reached as high as 49th nationally. She boasts a 30-19 record over the past year, including six wins over fellow five-star athletes and a 16-0 mark against four-star prospects.
