"Julia had an exceptional match in the finals today," head coach Michelle Dasso said. "Although she lost, she impressed me greatly with her decision making and quality of her first-strike balls. She also played solid doubles throughout the weekend. I strongly feel this was a breakthrough tournament for her in many ways."
Jamieson started the day with a win in semifinal action, edging Ksenia Googe of Washington State in a 6-7(0), 6-4, 10-7 thriller. The Wilmette, Ill., native came up short in the final, taking a 7-5, 6-3 loss to Oklahoma State's Maria Alvarez. Meanwhile, freshman Audrey O'Connor suffered a 6-3, 6-2 loss at the hands of Air Force's Melissa Cecil to close out her debut tournament with a 1-2 mark in singles and a 3-1 record in doubles .
"It was awesome to see Audrey compete in her first collegiate event," Dasso said. "I was impressed with her response in some of the pressure situations she faced this weekend."
Junior Misia Kedzierski dropped a heartbreaker in her final match of the tournament, falling 6-0, 6-7(1), 10-0 to Denver's Caroline Schnell.
"Misia got better each match she played and definitely needed some competitive matches to get herself back in the groove," Dasso said.
The Orange and Blue will take a week off before hosting the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional, Oct. 18-23 at Atkins Tennis Center.
"It's so fun as a coach to have a group of motivated individuals who want to improve and always have good attitudes," Dasso said.
