Illini Split Singles, Doubles at Air Force Invite
Oct. 7, 2012
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Fighting Illini women's tennis team went 1-1 in singles and 1-1 in doubles Saturday on day two of the U.S. Air Force Tennis Invitational. Sophomore Julia Jamieson led the way with wins in both singles and doubles play.
"Today was another day that was a test of character," head coach Michelle Dasso said. "Due to weather, all play was forced indoors, and our matches did not finish until after midnight. But the Illini deal and adjust, and I was proud of the effort from all three of my girls."
Jamieson and freshman Audrey O'Connor edged Eastern Michigan's Klara Supejova and Daphne Friedrichs, 9-8(6), in the semifinal round of their flight. The pair could not extend that momentum, however, taking an 8-3 loss to Texas Tech's Caroline Starck and Sandra Dynka in the final.
In singles action, Jamieson claimed a quick 6-2, 6-2 win over South Dakota State's Jenny Blackburne to advance to the semifinals of her draw, while O'Connor lost in straight sets to Jessica Parizher of Wyoming.
Meanwhile, junior Misia Kedzierski paired up with Washington State's Erin Troedson once again in exhibition play, cruising to an 8-1 win over Ffion Davies and Tacy Haws-Lays of South Dakota State.
The Illini will return to the court tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. CT to close out singles play at the Air Force Invite.
