    Illini Fall in Opening Round of Qualifier

    Finnegan, Fudge fall short in hard-fought matches

    PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Representing the Illinois women's tennis team in the qualifying singles round of the 2009 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., was senior Megan Fudge and junior Leigh Finnegan, who came up just short in opening round matches earlier today.

    Preseason No. 42 Fudge was defeated by No. 55 Alexandra Poorta of St. Mary's College of California, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, while No. 78 Finnegan fell to No. 31 and eighth-seeded Jelena Stanivuk of Baylor, 7-5, 6-2.

    The Illini return to action this weekend at the Kentucky Invitational beginning on Saturday (Oct. 9).
