BOULDER, Colo.- The Illinois women's tennis team wrapped up competition in it's first fall tournament at the Colorado Invitational this weekend. The Illini trio of senior Shivani Davé, sophomore Marisa Lambropoulos, and freshman Amy Allin all had a successful weekend at the round robin tournament, going a combined 11-2 in doubles and 6-6 in singles. The tournament field included Air Force, host Colorado, Northern Colorado, Virginia Tech, Wyoming and Illinois.
"This tournament was a good starting point for our girls," Illinois head coach Michelle Dasso said. "For our first tournament of the year the girls gained a lot of experience against competition that we don't normally see. They all saw areas where we can improve and know that with a lot of hard work this fall, we can make great strides before we start the spring season."
At the Colorado Invitational Davé picked up two singles wins over Northern Colorado's Tabatha Knop (6-2, 6-2) and Virginia Tech's Yasmin Hamza (6-2, 6-4). In doubles, Davé teamed up with Air Force's Megumi Voight. The duo went 3-0 on the weekend.
Lambropoulos and Allin paired up in doubles with the Illini tandem posting four solid wins over the course of the tournament. On the final day, the Illini prevailed over the Colorado duo of Christiane Pheil and Abbie Probert, 8-4, and later on, the tandem dominated Ronnie Spencer and Carly Van Hollen from Wyoming, 8-1.
In singles, Lambropoulos and Allin each picked up two wins at the tournament. Lambropoulos defeated Northern Colorado's Manuela Santos, 6-0, 6-0 and then came from behind to top Yasmin Hamza (VT) 5-7, 7-5, 6-0. In her collegiate debut, Allin dominated Northern Colorado's Tiffany Knop (6-0, 6-1) and Manuela Santos (6-2, 6-0).

Illini Freshman Abajian Advanced to Illinois USTA ITF Doubles Finals
Freshman Chelcie Abajian advanced to the Illinois USTA ITF doubles finals over the weekend. In the doubles finals, Abajian and partner Nida M. Hamilton fell to the No. 3 seeded tandem of Brynn Boren and Cierra Gaytan-Leach in the finals 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
"This was a great opportunity for Chelcie to get some matches under her belt," Dasso added. "She displayed some great doubles skills and incredible instincts, which will be an asset to our team in the spring."
In singles, Abajian advanced to the round of 16 before falling to Nikita Meka, 6-4, 6-0.
