Illini Blanked by #19 Ole Miss in ITA Kick-Off Consolation
Jan. 28, 2013
OXFORD, Miss. - The Fighting Illini women's tennis team (2-4) fell in a 4-0 shutout to No. 19 Ole Miss (1-2) in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend consolation match Monday morning at Gillom Sports Center. Juniors Allison Falkin and Misia Kedzierski paired up for a win at the No. 3 spot, but Illinois dropped its other two doubles matches to lose its third consecutive doubles point.
"Losing is not fun and not something I will ever allow my teams to get accustomed to," head coach Michelle Dasso said. "We will be back to work tomorrow morning."
Falkin and Kedzierski led off with an 8-5 victory over Julia Jones and Mai El Kamash, marking the Illinois duo's first win of the dual season. The Illini could not capitalize on their early doubles lead, however, dropping matches at Nos. 1 and 2 to put themselves down, 1-0.
In singles, the Orange and Blue lost straight-set matches on courts one, two and three to give the Rebels a 4-0 victory.
Illinois is now 0-4 when playing teams in the top 25.
The Illini will return to action this weekend, taking on Georgia State on Saturday at 9 a.m. CT in Atlanta and Furman on Sunday at 9 a.m. in Greenville, S.C.
