Illini Face No. 10 Miami At FIU Invite

MIAMI, Fla. - The 53rd-ranked University of Illinois women's tennis team was swept in doubles and got one victory in singles against No. 10 Miami on the second day of action at the FIU Invitational held at the University Park courts. The three-day tournament is being conducted in a hidden dual format where no team scores are allotted and results only count for individual records.
Illinois' top duo of sophomore Macall Harkins and senior Brianna Knue were downed by Audra Cohen and Audrey Banada, 8-3. The Illini suffered two more losses in doubles as junior Emily Wang and sophomore Momei Qu fell to Melissa Apllebaum and Patricia Starzyk, 8-2. Sophomore Alejandra Meza Cuadra and freshman Shivani Davé lost to Ana Rupic and Caren Seenauth, 8-3.
Cohen, an All-American transfer from Northwestern defeated Harkins in singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Qu was topped by No. 40 Banada 6-4, 6-2 and Starzyk got a 6-2, 6-1 straight set victory over Wang.
Meza Cuadra was outlasted by Seenauth 6-2, 7-5 for Miami's fifth singles win.
The Illini's only win came from Davé who defeated Rupic 6-4, 6-3.
The Fighting Illini conclude the weekend against No. 45 South Florida tomorrow. Play begins with singles action at 9 a.m. (CST) followed by doubles.
