CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Fighting Illini will try to push for a 7-0 start to the season at their own Dual Meet Extravaganza this weekend at IMPE Pool.
Illinois, now 3-0 on the year, open up the festivities against Missouri on Friday at 5 p.m. Illinois will face North Texas on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. followed by a matchup with Southern Illinois at 5 p.m., which starts the night session. On Sunday, the Illini conclude with Kansas and Penn State at 8 a.m. The extravaganza also features the men's teams from Kansas, Missouri and Southern Illinois.
UI will be looking for its first win against Kansas, who holds a 7-0 advantage in the series. The Fighting Illini are seeking revenge after suffering an 82-66 setback to Missouri at last year's extravaganza. Holding a 10-6 edge in the series, the Illini took Southern Illinois 145-41 last year. UI will have its first encounter with North Texas on Saturday.
The Fighting Illini are coming off two convincing home wins. Illinois put away Oakland 142-96 and Rice 171-63 last week. Senior Natasha Messmer has delivered team best in the 200 fly with a time of 2:04.38 and in the 100 fly, in 57.15. Junior Darcy Adler leads the team with time sof 1:05.35 in the 100 breast and 2:17.54 in the 200 breast. Freshman Alison Czmarko ranks first on the team in the 100 back with a mark of 58.63.
"I think we did well last weekend, and we did a better job of staying sharp and focused on Saturday (against Rice)," Head Coach Jim Lutz said. "We looking forward to tough competition this weekend."
