CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Fighting Illini swimming and diving team will host its fourth annual Splash Bash event this Friday, Oct. 21 at 2:30 p.m. in room MP6 at the ARC, as the swimmers and divers take on Big Ten rival Northwestern. Splash Bash 2011, sponsored by FOX 55/27 Illinois, will feature free food for the first 500 fans. In addition to food, fans can enjoy inflatables, face painting, music, prizes and a great view overlooking the ARC Pool. Admission is free.
"It's one of two opportunities to get to see us compete at home this year," Illini head coach Sue Novitsky said. "We're heading into an Olympic year, so swimming and diving are on people's minds. Splash Bash offers a chance to get to see some great swimming and diving. Kids will be getting out of school right then, so it's an opportunity to bring them over and let them have some fun."
Along with the Splash Bash festivities, fans can watch the swimmers and divers open their season against Northwestern at 3 p.m., as the Illini look to improve on last year's 7-3 record.
"I really want that home-pool advantage," Novitsky said. "We need that Illinois crowd in the stands to really give the Wildcats something to think about."
