Reynolds Named Wheelchair Sports, USA Athlete of the Year

Champaign, Ill. - University of Illinois junior swimmer Lauren Reynolds (Basking Ridge, N.J./Wardhaw Hartridge) was named Wheelchair Sports, USA Female Athlete of the Year, the organization announced recently. Reynolds will be honored along with the organization's male athlete of the year, quad rugby player Steve Pate, at a dinner on Oct. 20 in Warm Springs, GA during the WSUSA National Delegate Assembly.

Reynolds is a 2000 Paralympic Games gold medalist in the 400 free and silver medalist in the 100 free and 4x100 free relay. Her gold medal-winning swim in the 400 free also set a world rcord, and she was named the Optimist Club Athlete of the Year in 2000.

The Illini swim team kicks off the 2001-02 season with the annual Orange and Blue meet, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at IMPE pool on the campus of the University of Illinois.
